IDAHOBIT: We stand up against hate

Sheffield's Lord Mayor, Councillor Jayne Dunn, used her final official engagement at the Winter Gardens to deliver a powerful address during today's International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebration.

Standing beside community support groups, activists, and local icons like drag artist Emma Maezin, Dunn pledged the Council's support to the city's LGBTQ+ community to combat rising discrimination.

The event centred on the theme "The Power of Community" to transform the venue into a vibrant display of allyship. The Lord Mayor used the platform to bridge the gap between civic institutions and marginalised groups, emphasising that safety in Sheffield is a collective responsibility.

Dunn urged the crowd to move beyond passive support. "It is not enough just to say these things exist; it is about making these things more visible," she said. "When any part of our community faces discrimination, it makes society less fair overall."
